What is Present Continuous Tense Explained main concept Learn English Grammar in Urdu.

This is Part 6 of English Grammar course in Urdu. Here in this post we will learn all concept of Present Continuous Tense with examples and also about the deferent forms like: Negative & Interrogative in Urdu.

What is Present Continuous Tense ?

The present continuous tense, also known as the present progressive tense, is used to describe actions that are currently happening or are in progress at the moment of speaking. It is formed using the present tense of the verb “to be” (am, is, are) and the present participle (-ing form) of the main verb.

موجودہ ترقی پسند زمانہ کے طور پر بھی جانا جاتا ہے، ان افعال کو بیان کرنے کے لیے استعمال کیا جاتا ہے جو فی الحال ہو رہے ہیں یا بولنے کے وقت جاری ہیں۔ یہ فعل کے موجودہ دور اور

مرکزی فعل کے موجودہ حصہ (-ing شکل) کا استعمال کرتے ہوئے تشکیل دیا گیا ہے۔ :“to be” (am, is, are)

Subject + Is/Am/Are + Verb ing + Object
He is going to school.
Examples:
  1. I am typing a report. (میں ایک رپورٹ ٹائپ کر رہا ہوں۔)
  2. She is singing a song. (وہ ایک گانا گا رہی ہے۔)
  3. They are playing basketball. (وہ باسکٹ بال کھیل رہے ہیں۔)
  4. He is cooking dinner. (وہ رات کا کھانا بنا رہا ہے۔)
  5. We are studying for an exam. (ہم امتحان کے لیے پڑھ رہے ہیں۔)
  6. The children are watching a movie. (بچے فلم دیکھ رہے ہیں۔)
  7. She is reading a book. (وہ ایک کتاب پڑھ رہی ہے)
  8. He is jogging in the park. (وہ پارک میں جاگنگ کر رہا ہے۔)
  9. They are working on a group project. (وہ ایک گروپ پروجیکٹ پر کام کر رہے ہیں۔)
  10. I am waiting for the bus. (میں بس کا انتظار کر رہا ہوں۔)

Note:- that the present continuous tense can also be used to describe future actions that have already been planned or arranged, such as “I am meeting my friend for lunch tomorrow. میں کل دوپہر کے کھانے کے لیے اپنے دوست سے مل رہا ہوں۔”

Present Continuous Negative Tense

The present continuous negative tense is used to describe actions that are not happening at the moment or are in progress in a negative sense at the moment of speaking. It is formed by adding “not” after the auxiliary verb “to be” (am not, is not, are not) and the present participle (-ing form) of the main verb.

Subject + Is/Am/Are + Not  + Verb ing + Object
He is not going to school

  1. I am not eating breakfast right now. (میں ابھی ناشتہ نہیں کر رہا ہوں۔)
  2. She is not working on her assignment at the moment. (وہ اس وقت اپنی اسائنمنٹ پر کام نہیں کر رہی ہے۔)
  3. They are not watching TV right now. (وہ ابھی ٹی وی نہیں دیکھ رہے ہیں۔)
  4. He is not listening to music while studying. (وہ پڑھائی کے دوران موسیقی نہیں سن رہا ہے۔)
  5. We are not playing video games right now. (ہم ابھی ویڈیو گیمز نہیں کھیل رہے ہیں۔)

Note:- that the negative form of the present continuous tense can also be used to express a refusal to do something, such as “I am not helping you with your project.”


Present Continuous Interrogative Tense

The present continuous interrogative tense is used to ask questions about actions that are happening or in progress at the moment of speaking. It is formed by inverting the auxiliary verb “to be” (am, is, are) and the subject of the sentence, and adding the present participle (-ing form) of the main verb.

Is/Am/Are + Subject + Verb ing + Object
Is he going to school?
  1. Are you watching TV right now? (کیا آپ ابھی ٹی وی دیکھ رہے ہیں؟)
  2. Is she studying for her exam at the moment? (کیا وہ اس وقت اپنے امتحان کے لیے پڑھ رہی ہے؟)
  3. Are they playing basketball this afternoon? (کیا وہ آج دوپہر باسکٹ بال کھیل رہے ہیں؟)
  4. Is he cooking dinner tonight? (کیا وہ آج رات کا کھانا بنا رہا ہے؟)
  5. Are we going to the park later? (کیا ہم بعد میں پارک جا رہے ہیں؟)

Note:- that the present continuous interrogative tense can also be used to ask about future actions that have already been planned or arranged, such as “Are you meeting your friend for lunch tomorrow?”
